About Brighouse Juniors...

The club was formed in the1989/90 season by Martin Brook who was soon to be assisted by Richard Hill and Jan King. Local club Clifton Rangers, at that time, only ran one team and could not accommodate all of those who wanted to play. Martin decided that he would start a team of under 10's and named the team Broadoak Juniors FC. The next year a few more boy's wanting to play football came along as well as myself and another team was formed. The ball had started rolling and continues to this day.

At the beginning of the 1993/94 season the club changed its name to Brighouse Juniors and at the same time applied to Calderdale Council for permission to build changing rooms on the pitch. Calderdale offered the Truck Royd Quarry site, which was designated for recreational use, if the club could raise the money to develop it.

Soon the land was surveyed; outline planning approved and a 50 year lease was drawn up. All that was needed now was to find the money - originally at £60,000.

However the original plans got bigger and better, and so did the estimates of the costs involved. It was soon realized that Lottery funding would be required to succeed and professional help was enlisted. They applied for grants, advised on fund raising, then completed and submitted an application to the Lottery Sports Council on behalf of the club.

After 3years of ups and downs, frustration and tension the club were finally awarded lottery funding of £167,000 to make the clubs dreams come true. This was 70% of the money required, the club having to raise the balance itself and having the funds in place before it could be approved. We were well supported by the Football Association, Calderdale Leisure Services, Marshalls,  Halifax PLC and many other local firms.
