Match Reports22nd March 2009 Lepton Highlanders U6 - 4 Vs Brighouse U6 - 3Brighouse Juniors U6 squad played there first games of the season following an invitation to play at Lepton Highlanders on the 22nd March. A group of 13 boys along with parents, brothers, sisters and grandparents wound there way on to the hills above Huddersfield to the excellent facilities at Lepton Highlanders. On a very windy day the children did themselves and the club proud as they played two matches of mini-soccer. Both games were played with great spirit and determination in difficult conditions. In match one the blue team started well pressing into the Lepton half of the pitch at every opportunity and were unlucky to go 1-0 down after good work from the Lepton boys. The more experienced Lepton side created another chance only for Thomas Keast to save bravely to prevent another goal. Brighouse battled back and following great defensive work from Luke Smith and Ben Orley found themselves level at half time 1-1 with a great goal from Dylan Metcalf. The Blue continued the good work in the second half with Thomas Pearson and Ben Brearley working hard in the middle of the pitch to prevent increasing pressure from Lepton, despite all efforts by the Blues in the face of increasing winds Lepton eventually ran out winners 3-1. In match two the yellows got of to a great start playing with the wind to race into a 2-0 lead with a great sliding finish from Silas Ennis and an opportunist’s goal from Charlie Cooper following a goal mouth scramble. More chances followed with pressure on the Lepton goal being created by some good kicking from goal keeper Anthony Ellwood, but chances were not taken and yellows lead at half time 2-0. The Lepton side started the second half the stronger playing, with the wind the pressured the Brighouse goal but tireless effort from Alex Jaffrey, Michael Jones and Barney Garside in stopping the Lepton team getting close to the Brighouse goal. Then against the run of play Adam Swallow broke away and from his own half and went clear to score a fantastic individual goal to put the visitors 3-0 up. (I’m sure the cheers were heard in Brighouse). However, the Lepton team were not going to give up the game and fought back well to score 3 quick goals to set up a tense last couple of minutes. It was not to be the yellows day as late pressure told and Lepton scored a 4th deciding goal. Final score Lepton 4 Brighouse 3. Despite the results there were smiles all-round, the Brighouse teams were excellent on there first outing for the club, they listed to instructions given and enjoyed the games. With more games on the horizon a victory is not far away. |
