Match Reports

18/10/2009 - Brighouse U9's A 2 V 4 Wyke Wanderers U9's A

Brighouse played some lovely football but were undone by a well drilled Wyke side in this entertaining encounter. The home began well with Seamus Connelly and Oliver Priestley Standing combining to provide an early chance for Joshua Greenwood which was well saved. At the other end Joseph Croft and Liam Read were in commanding mood stop the visitor’s attacks. As the half wore on though Wyke took the lead through a well worked goal and soon had a two goal lead as the home side took their foot off the gas. Sam Heppenstall Batty in the home net then produced a fine double save to keep is side in touch. Just before the break Brighouse scored when Matthew Airey picked the ball up just outside his own box and then proceeded to run the length of the field leaving defenders in his wake and although his shot was blocked Oliver Priestley Standing was on hand to score.

After the break both sides played some great football and Wyke extended their lead midway through the half when Brighouse failed to clear an attack. Brighouse now charged forward and began to dominate with Callum Dyson and Seamus Connelly both going close and the home side set up a grandstand finish when Connelly found Airey who finished in style. Brighouse continued to seek an equaliser but couldn’t break Wyke’s resistance and the visitors confirmed victory when a long ball evaded the home defence and skipped into the net.

18/10/2009 - Brighouse U9's C 1 V 4 Wyke Wanderers U9's B

The second game of the morning was also a highly entertaining affair with both sides battling hard and producing some good football. Wyke took an early lead and despite some fine defending by Jonathan Wheatly, Seth Dickinson and Sam Summers the visitors doubled their lead midway through the first half. At the other end Ben Dyson and George Jaffry combined to produce a lovely passing move which set Dickinson up who then brought a good save from the visiting keeper.

After the break Harris Moulson and Lauren Horner continued to battle hard in the middle of the park for the home side and with Paul Eliot holding the defence together Brighouse looked like they could snatch a result but Wyke scored twice in quick succession with stand in goal-keeper Matthew Airey unable to stop long distance shots. To their credit Brighouse battled on and when Jaffry sent Louis Cockburn free the youngster scored a great goal from a tight angle. Cockburn almost scored again from a fine shot and at the other end Airey made a string of saves as Wyke pressed on to hold onto a deserved victory.
