Brighouse Juniors - Mid Term Report January 2010

Brighouse Juniors Football Club are already half way through a hectic season. As chairman Ian Addy says ' The past four months of the season have shot past, although
because of the recent weather It has been a frustrating few weeks for all of us not just connected with BJFC, which means that many teams will be playing catch up for the rest of the season.
It only seems two minutes since we were planning the playing arrangements for our thirty teams, and then of course holding the bonfire which is one of our two major annual community events with over two thousand local people in attendance.
In December we also introduced two new club events, a social evening which was attended by over 100 parents and managers at Hove Edge Bowling Club, and also at the same venue we held a Christmas Party for younger children in the club and this went down very well, of course Father Christmas was in attendance! Although there is still another four months of the season still to go we are already starting to plan the Easter raffle which is another key fund raiser and the Open Weekend on 12th /13th June the second of our major events.'
The Club is well structured with a management committee which prides itself on providing some of the best facilities and support for over 400 children to play football in the area. However,
this year they have an additional challenge as club secretary Nicola Barker is standing down at the end of the season after four successful years in the position.
Over that period she has continued to develop the role which has grown significantly and as a consequence we intend to split the role into Club Secretary (this will deal with the general club administration) and League Secretary (this will provide the link role between the club and the RCD Huddersfield Junior Football League).
As Nicola says ' The main area of growth has been the coordination of fixture/activities with the RCD League who now require a single point of contact for each club, as a result there is a need to take these
duties away from the secretary's role and create a new position.'
Chairman Addy adds' The roles are crucial and are fundamental to our success and the future smooth running of the club, the upshot of this is that we need the roles filling from June 2010.
Fortunately we have had one person come forward expressing interest, but we need others to come forward to be able to help us continue successfully as one of the best run clubs in the area, this may be a parent, grandparent, family friend or someone not even currently connected with the club. Whoever takes on the roles will get full support of the club and Nicola'.
Whilst Nicola will stand down as secretary she will still be involved with the club joining Dougie Tait's project team which is investigating
the development of the area of land between the pitches at Broad Oak. 'I see this as a great opportunity not only to stay involved with the club but
to help Dougie and his team to come up with proposals and ideas to exploit the site at Hove Edge. I know we have a number of ideas including the potential to
install a 3G training area, but we need to turn these into concrete detailed plans and costs, which I can help the team develop.' says Nicola.
These continue to be exciting and challenging times for Brighouse Juniors but as with all amateur groups we are reliant on volunteers and need new blood to get involved
to ensure that the club doesn't stagnate and ensure it continues to develop and go forward.

Brighouse Juniors is looking forward to another season of success!
This is not meant to be a bigheaded statement! Brighouse Juniors measures their success not by results, although an added bonus, but by the fact that we have so many boys and girls playing football regularly in a secure and positive environment.
For this season we have 30 teams and over 400 players which is an incredible number and managing everything that goes with that number of teams has a danger of becoming all consuming for those involved!
It is always challenging, but we like to ensure that the club has solid foundations for the future, that the club continues to develop and that all players have the right environment to be successful, whatever their ability.
We currently have a great committee from all age groups and with different skills and a real enthusiasm for the club. It is without doubt what keeps the club going from strength to strength!
Creating a positive environment this season includes the launch and full support of the FA’s Respect campaign. This has been very well received with great comments from many other visiting clubs. We are the first junior club in the country to launch it in this way! This is a marvellous achievement and it has been included in our new induction presentation to be launched to managers, coaches and parents for the new season.
We will also be sending over 8 managers or coaches on the FA Level 1 Coaching course and over 12 managers or coaches onto an emergency aid and child welfare courses throughout the season. The cost of these coursed exceeds over £4000 and along with the £14,000 provided for winter training facilities, the costs are already already mounting up. Other costs include such things as pitch maintenance, new posts for all pitches, training equipment for all teams, associated facility costs and of course new kits. This shows the commitment of everybody involved in the club, including parents or guardians who pay their subscriptions on a regular basis.
Finally, we have made great strides in ensuring the club has the right process in place to support the transition from Mini Soccer to 11-a side. This has proved very challenging, but we now aim to manage it from the first year that players and parents join. This has been more successful than other years and we would like to welcome this year’s new under 7’s and hope they have a great time being involved with Brighouse Juniors
As the season is now in full flow we look forward to an enjoyable one!
Celebrating 20 years of Brighouse Juniors Football Club
at this years
Open Weekend and Summer Ball
What an achievement, I really don’t know where to start! This year sees the club celebrate 20 years of junior football.
The club was founded in 1989 by a group of local parents to provide somewhere for their children to play organised football In the 20 years it has been running it has grown to a current membership of over 400 playing members. It is now one of the largest junior football clubs in the district and is still growing year by year.
It is such a success story that we intend to celebrate in a ‘big way’ this year at our Open Weekend and Summer Ball.
Brighouse Juniors Football Club would like to welcome you and your family to this year’s Open Weekend on the 6th & 7th June at the main clubhouse, Halifax Road, Hove Edge, Brighouse.
We also extend an open invitation to all past and present managers, coaches, helpers, parents and last but not least current players to join us either at the open weekend presentations or on the evening of the Summer Ball, which naturally will be based on an ‘Eighties’ fancy dress theme!
The aim for this years open weekend is that all the teams in each age group come together to celebrate and share in end of season presentations. All players will receive a medal and possibly a trophy which will be presented to the winners of individual awards.

Your team manager will inform you what is required from each player to register for the new season ahead.
We will have special presentations to mark the achievements of individuals and for players the introduction of a long service medals for players for the first time.
We will also be launching the FA’s Respect Campaign to show the commitment of Brighouse Juniors Football Club. Respect is The FA’s programme to address unacceptable behaviour in football – on and off the pitch. http://www.thefa.com/Leagues/Respect.aspx
At the end of my first year as chairman I would like to thank everybody who has given time and contributed in any way large or small in supporting the club. We should all be exceptionally proud of what we achieve and the how the club is perceived within the community. We should also be proud that we are helping to shape our boys and girl’s future, not just with football knowledge, but life skills and friendship skills as well.
On behalf of the management committee, team managers, assistants and social representatives may we thank you for your continued support and look forward to seeing you at the open weekend and of course next season.

From the Dug Out - Chairman's Note
As Chairman I would like to say a slightly belated huge thank you on behalf of every
one connected to Brighouse Juniors past and present to Chris Wadsworth,
outgoing Chairman.
Chris has been connected with the club right from its origination and has been
Chairman for a number of years. The club has successfully moved forward under
Chris's Chairmanship and is now one of the largest in the area.
My role is to successfully follow Chris and ensure the club has solid
foundations for the future, that the club continues to develop and that all
players have the right environment to be successful, whatever their ability.
Believe me, this is not a one man job and we currently have a great committee, great managers, great coaches and a great social team from all age groups and with different skills with a real enthusiasm for the club.
But, We are always looking for people with great skills and enthusiasm to
ensure the club continues to progress. If your child is starting out on their
footballing life with Brighouse Juniors., please give consideration to
volunteering your services for a period of time. It is your child's club!
We hope your child has a wonderful time developing their skills at Brighouse
Juniors.
Annual Member Subscription Update:
The above transition is now complete and the change over as gone better than expected, this is down to the hard work
of everybody who cares for the future of the club and the committee would like to pass on special thanks to all parents
and children for their continued support and help as we improve process within the club. The Committee would also like
to give specific thanks to Jan King and Jane Higson for the hard work in completing this major task.
WE NEED YOUR HELP !!
As you know the club is run purely by volunteers. There are three main areas:-
Managers and Coaches
These are the volunteers who run the teams and coach the kids. They need your support in a number of areas such as on match days putting the nets up, marking pitches out, transport to and from matches and training. So please ask your relevant manager/coach if there is anything that you can do to help, in most cases they will be grateful for any assistance so that they can focus on developing the players and running the team.
Social Reps
Ideally every age group needs a social rep, at the last meeting we did have a better turn out but there are still a number of age groups not represented. The commitment for this role is to attend a monthly meeting which usually lasts one hour and to be available to support club events. We only have two major events each year – the Presentation/Celebration weekend in June and the bonfire in November so the overhead is not that great. It’s a great opportunity to meet other people, good fun helping out and feeling part of a wonderful club. If you want to get involved then please contact Steve Wood on 01422 360948.
Management Committee
This the committee that is responsible for running your club. There are currently nine members serving on the committee and there are two vacancies. Five of the individuals involved have been with the club more or less since it started in 1989 and no longer have children involved. At the Annual General meeting in 2007, the chairperson Chris Wadsworth announced his intention to step down from the role in 2008 and there will be one or two others who will be standing down over the next twelve months. Brighouse Juniors is widely recognised as being a successful club which provides good facilities for children in the community.
So if you want to make a difference, want to get involved in taking the club forward then please come forward. If you want to know more then contact
Chris Wadsworth on 01484 719152.
Ex Brighouse Juniors player, Paige Eli, who is now at the West Riding Centre of Excellence, along with 6 other ex Brighouse players was amongst 30 players who went to Lilleshall for a 4 day training/selection camp.
We are delighted to say that since then Paige has been included in the squad of 18 to represent England at under 15 level in a friendly against Germany in April.
Something for everyone connected with Brighouse Juniors to be proud of
