Match Reports

Brighouse U18s 4 v Honley U18s 2

Cup Semi Final

Brighouse dominated the early stages of the game and created a couple of half chances but never really tested the Honley keeper. With 10 minutes gone Matthew Campbell made a jinking run down the right hand wing and found Mitchell Standing who beat his marker and coolly slipped the ball into the corner of the goal. Brighouse pushed forward seeking a second but against the run of play Honley drew back level through an unchallenged shot from outside of the box.
This was the wake up call that Brighouse needed and immediately responded by forcing a corner from Matthew Asquith’s in swinger James Anderson hit a low volley to restore the lead, credit to Honley they equalized within minutes via a looping header. The second half was a poor spectacle regarding flowing football, Brighouse always looked the more likely to score and with Matthew Jones marshalling the back four Honley’s attacks were very limited. Anderson again gave Brighouse the lead after neat work from skipper Tom Drake, On the hour mark Lee Moorhouse made a great block tackle that resulted in him been carried off the field of play and a call for an ambulance, the introduction of Ben Johnson and Josh Walters didn’t change the pattern of the game and Walters could have scored but blazed over from a tight angle. Anderson made game safe when he fired in after his initial header hit the cross bar.
George Learoyd just failed to add his name to the score sheet when he slid in at the back post. Overall this was not a vintage performance and there is room for improvement but this has been an excellent season so far and with three league games to play the double is still on. The injury to Lee Moorhouse was not as bad as first thought, after spending the night in hospital he was diagnosed with torn ligaments to his foot, hopefull he will make a speedy recovery, best wishes from all the team and the club for his forth coming wedding.
